John brings his rich life experience and love of learning to his clients at YFC. He works with individual men and women, as well as couples. One of his special interests is working with young adults on the issues and challenges specific to that stage of life.
John works with clients on a range of issues including anxiety and depression, adjustment disorders, relationships, marriage, parenting, divorce, and aging. For more than 20 years, he has conducted retreats and facilitated support groups focusing on the emotional and relational development of men. This special interest in the roles and trials of men in our society informs his work not just with men, but also with women and especially with couples. His many years of negotiating and surviving his own maze within corporate environments also give him significant insight into employment issues clients may bring.
As a clinical social worker, John works with older adults on Medicare. As an older adult himself, he feels he brings understanding and empathy. As an active older adult, he sees himself as an example, surprising many by sharing his earning of a pilot’s license after he received his own Medicare card.
John completed the Advanced Clinical Training Program at the Cathedral Counseling Center of Chicago, as well as a graduate-level clinical internship at YFC. He continues to add knowledge and understanding of his areas of interest with various trainings. Most recently, he completed the Externship for Emotionally Focused Therapy, the fundamental training, based on attachment theory, to help couples begin to view their relationship as the safe haven it is meant to be.
